Notes from Roscoe Roeth received August 1993: John Andrew Roth (with an umlaut), born 1804, died 1898. Wife Maria Elizabeth born 1817, died 1883. Came first to the USA from Germany. Was an uncle of Grandfather (Karl Roeth). Brother of our great-grandfather. Then, Casper Roth (with an umlaut), brother of Grandfather, came to USA and lived with John (Roth) Reed and took the name of Reed to be heir of John (Roth) Reed. Casper Reed born 1841, died 1912.
I am looking for information about the family of J. Casper Reed (Roeth) b.1841 Prussia d. 1917 Shelby County and his wife Mary (Maria) b. 1846 Prussia d. 1920 Shelby County. They had three children Henry b. 1869 Wm. F. b 1871 and Anna M.C. b. 1878. Anna died at 3 mos. Wm. is my great grandfather but I have little information about him. I have no records about Henry. I would appreciate any information about this family. William's son, Walter, married Clissie Ruth Apple dau of Ira Apple and Esther Brandt. I am looking for information about these families as well. My gg grandfather, J(John?) Casper REED was born in Prussia in 1841 and came to Loramie Twp., SHELBY Co. in 1857. His uncle, Andrew (Johan Andreas) REED came later. On tombstones at Wehneman Cemetery on Miami Shelby Co. Line Rd. they are listed as ROETH and Carl Frederick ROETH's citizenship papers were witnessed by Casper Reed. Casper REED married Mary, from Ohio, about 1865. Looking for any connections.

Notes received from George Reed, 6/99: John Casper Reed's death certificate reads Germany as place of birth but census records show Prussia. He emigrated in 1857 from Prussia. Came to live with his aunt and uncle, Andrew and Mary E. Reed. He died on March 6, 1917 in Loramie Twp., Shelby Co., Ohio. Arteriosclerosis and myocarditis. Paraplegia was a contributing factor. He was buried on March 10, 1917 in St. Paul's Lutheran (Wehneman) Cemetery, County Line Road, Miami Co., Ohio. Leonard Marker, Undertaker, Versailles, OH. He was a farmer in Loramie Twp. Casper swore to the 5-year residency of Carl Frederick Roeth when Carl became a citizen on June 10, 1886. He was married to Mary (Anna Maria) Hecht on December 26, 1865 in Darke Co., Oh by John G. Schaefer, MG. |
