Henry died of bone cancer. This was probably the result of prostate cancer treated (successfully?) several years earlier. It was a long, slow, and painful death. Henry was buried on December 11 at Frieden's Lutheran Church in Covington, Ohio.

From the Piqua Daily Call, December 9, 1997: Henry W. Apple, Covington. Henry William Apple, 79, died Friday, December 6, 1996, at 2:5p.m. in the Covington Care Center.
He was born April 18, 1917, in Shelby County, to the late Alfred Henry and Minnie Idona Apple.
He married Ina Pearl Kingrey December 28, 1940, in Bradford. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Nelson Apple and William Apple, both of Covington; three daughters, Mrs. Marion Leapley (Virginia) of Sidney, Mrs. Ned Hines (Barbara) of Anna Arbor, Michigan, and Mrs. Jerry Clingerman (Joan) of Senegal, West Africa; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Katherine Idona Phillis of Covington.
One son, one brother, and one great-grandchild preceded him in death.
He was a 1934 graduate of Versailles High School.
He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Bloomer and he attended Harris Creek Church of the Brethren in Bradford.
He was a member of the Ohio-Michigan Equipment Dealers Association, Miami County Farm Bureau, International Farm Youth Exchange, and Electrified Farm Family of 1960.
He was owner of Apple Farm Service, Inc. in Covington and Botkins, since 1955. He was a farmer in Miami County. He pioneered field harvesting of sileage and hay in the early 1940s.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Pearson-Jackson Funeral Home in Covington and at 11:30 a.m. at Friedens Lutheran Church in Bloomer with Pastor Cory Lemmon and Pastor Linda Skelly officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Friedens Lutheran Church, Harris Creek Church of the Brethren or Hospice of Miami County.
